The Tooling Supervisor is responsible for supervising processes and people while working to improve plant and tool room KPI's. Performs scheduled and unscheduled tool and die making/repairs. Always working to improve dies to allow the plant to run as efficiently as possible, and ensure we produce parts that meet the customer's specifications.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervise all shift employees in the Tooling Department.
Carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Manage SAP (work order system). All work that is done by the tool room needs to be documented in SAP.
Manage labor hours, including straight time and overtime. Keep SuccessFactors (time keeping system) up to date daily.
Continuously work on improvements throughout the department to keep costs down as it relates to all areas of the plant.
Responsible for downtime as it relates to tooling.
Schedule work throughout the tool room to meet production schedule and needs.
Ensure standard work is followed and enforced.
Work on improvements to tools and engage team members to improve safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
Tracking and resolving issues as they relate to safety, quality, cost, delivery, morale, and 5S for the tooling department.
Ensure all dies produce a part to the customer's specifications. This will be done by managing and scheduling routine maintenance on all dies.
Problem solving die issues, using problem-solving tools such as 8D's, 5 WHY's, etc..
Attend learning opportunities to gain professional and technical knowledge.
Assure all safety devices are properly in place and utilized, Lockout/Tagout procedures are adhered to, PPE is worn correctly at all times, and reporting of any near-misses, injuries, or accidents occurs immediately.
Assure adherence to quality policies and procedures, including acceptable work standards, customer specifications, and IPI requirements, to also include participation in the creation and support of systems, documentation and actions to ensure continued conformance to Quality (IATF) and Environmental (ISO) management systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Tool & Die journeyman's card required, OR 10 years related experience preferred.
At least 3 years' experience leading a team within a manufacturing environment required.
Supervision experience leading a tool and die department is highly preferred.
Experience troubleshooting in a production stamping plant.
Experience with hot forming dies, progressive or other experience in tandem, transfer, and ejection mold preferred.
Experience in hot stamping is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Computer proficiency – email, Word, Excel required; SAP a plus.
Understanding of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
Experience working to a budget.
Basic understanding of TS16949 or IATF as it relates to this department.
Thorough knowledge of the operation of manual machines, such as mills, lathes, saws, and different grinders.
Basic knowledge of welding applications, spotting applications, and CNC operations.
Basic knowledge of GD&T and CAD as it relates to part prints.
Must be able to read and interpret CMM reports and scan data as it relates to dies and part quality.
Competent in new die construction, and all the stages that lead up to buy-off.
Ability to read 3D and 2D designs.
