Duties and Responsibilities: This is a general overview of the key responsibilities you'll undertake in this vital role. It may be subject to change, and reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  1. Conduct thorough patient assessments to identify signs and symptoms of illness or injury and collaborate with medical personnel as needed.
  2. Administer prompt basic life support care according to established protocols before and during patient transport.
  3. Ensure careful handling and transport of patients in and out of the ambulance.
  4. Safely transport patients to medical facilities, ensuring their comfort and wellbeing during transit.
  5. Provide a secure and efficient handoff of patients and care information to receiving personnel at the destination.
  6. Document all aspects of patient conditions and treatments accurately on EMS run reports and maintain necessary patient documentation.
  7. Conduct regular checks on unit inventory and equipment to ensure all items are present, clean, and operational.
  8. After transport, perform necessary duties to prepare the ambulance and equipment for service.
  9. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the ambulance's basic life support equipment and its correct usage.
  10. Report any needed repairs for electronic or mechanical equipment to maintenance departments and supervisors.
  11. In emergencies, utilize basic extrication tools and control the environment to ensure patient safety.
  12. Operate the ambulance safely and efficiently under all conditions, adhering to company driving guidelines.
  13. Follow all regulations during electronic communications to ensure compliance.
  14. Attend mandatory meetings and complete assigned station responsibilities.
  15. Order supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels for the station and ambulances.
  16. Perform regular cleaning duties on the ambulance as required.
  17. Complete all company reports and logs, providing relevant information to supervisors and colleagues.
  18. If qualified as a preceptor, guide new employees and EMT-Basic students as directed.
  19. Meet the qualifications and responsibilities outlined in the Emergency Medical Technician -Basic job description.
  20. Engage in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. National and/or State certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate as per state regulations.
  3. Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  4. Valid state-issued driver's license as determined by state regulations.
  5. Strong communication skills, with the ability to write reports and present information effectively.
  6. Knowledgeable about company protocols and safety policies.
  7. Able to safely operate large vehicles in various conditions.
