POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Manager - Corporate Finance and Accounting will implement the infrastructure and systems needed to support MCD's strategic objectives. The Senior Manger is accountable for the oversight and management of corporate finance and accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, corporate insurance, annual audit, budget, treasury, and physical infrastructure. As a member of the senior financial management team, the Senior Manager will be involved in a range of strategic planning and internal initiatives. They will partner closely with the Controller and the senior management team in the development of MCD's financial strategic goals. They will continually evaluate best industry practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities. The Senior Manager - Corporate Finance and Accounting will serve as second in command to the Controller and serve as Controller in their absence. This position will have direct management responsibility for a staff of 2-3, which includes, at a minimum, the Manager of Corporate Finance and Accounting and the Manager of Payroll.

LOCATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: The primary location of this position is remote/home office based. job responsibilities may require periodic meetings, conferences, training, etc., that necessitate an individual to be in various public places, (e.g., hotel conference rooms). Employees may opt for a hybrid arrangement if they are within commuting distance to our Hallowell, ME office.

PAY GRADE: Grade 7 (Maine pay range: $97,000-$116,000). Salary will vary by geographical location.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Financial Oversight:
   
   Independently leads all finance operations, including financial reporting, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, corporate insurance, annual audit, budget, treasury, month- and year-end close calendar and operation, and physical infrastructure. Manages all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Oversees fund accounting for restricted/unrestricted funds per nonprofit GAAP (FASB ASC 958). Establishes, maintains, and updates as needed internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and project budgets and actual expenditures.
2. Policies and Procedures:
   Applies and ensures compliance with industry best practice and government regulations. Provides significant input in collaboration with the Controller into the development of departmental policies, procedures and protocols, and ensuring continuous quality improvement. Monitors compliance with USG grant requirements like 2 CFR 200.
3. Reporting:
   Oversees the preparation of accurate financial reports and analysis, and presents the same to the Controller, ensuring timely communication of financial status and trends to MCD leadership. Continually analyzes financial data and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner. Clearly communicates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the Controller and management; monitors progress and changes and keeps the Controller abreast of MCD's financial status. Supports the Controller in engaging the board's audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
4. Corporate Budget Management:
   Independently leads the annual budgeting process, comparing actual results to financial plans, and identifying variances for corrective action. Assists the Controller in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare them to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate. Prepares the annual Finance and Accounting departmental budget for incorporation into the annual corporate budget.
5. Audit Coordination:
   Backstops the Controller in coordinating and leading audit activities. Supports all audit activities, prepares schedules as needed, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls. Leads preparation for single audit if applicable under 2 CFR 200.
6. Team Leadership:
   Supervises finance staff, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and performance. Partners with Controller and the rest of the management team to ensure that the focus remains on the organization's mission while maintaining the culture that makes MCD unique. Delegates activities among direct reports to fulfill departmental goals and objectives. Provides timely constructive feedback and formal assessment of performance of direct reports. They serve as second in command to the Controller and fill in for the Controller in their absence.
7. Collaboration:
   Works closely with project leaders to train them on finance and accounting procedures, ensuring alignment with project operations.
8. Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement (NICRA):
   Backstops the Controller in preparing the annual NICRA proposal.
9. Treasury:
   Directs cash management operations to include daily cash administration, management of current accounts, and daily limits on cash transactions. Prepares organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the project directors and procurement. Supports the Controller in managing and tracking the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
10. Supervisory: Overall responsibility for recruitment of direct reports. Leverages strengths of the current finance team members, helps to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training projects to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals. Creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment. Exercises a high degree of discretion and diplomacy. Maintains confidentiality of highly privileged information. Resolves substantive conflicts within Unit.

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, including a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and GAAP. Experience leading and running operationally effective teams that have multiple functional areas.
• Expert knowledge and understanding of USG Rules and Regulations and FAR (especially Subpart 31.7) and 2CFR200.
• Two to three (2-3) years of experience in assisting in the preparing and submitting/negotiating of NICRAs to the USG.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and proficiency in financial software and reporting tools. Proficiency in Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables); experience with ERP systems.
• Demonstrated experience in performing financial management and accounting, coordinating audit activities, and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
• Excellent demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and proficiency in financial software and reporting tools. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Technology savvy with familiarity in managing relationships with finance and accounting software.
• Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly. Proven effectiveness in managing others, empowering them to make decisions. Foster a collaborative environment and ensure the team is equipped with the tools and knowledge to support organizational goals.
• Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills, which allow for strategic data interpretation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, the Board, and/or other partners or clients.
• Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers. Success seeing beyond the numbers, identifying trends and new possibilities.

• Nonprofit experience is preferred, with a strong preference for someone who has operated in a fast-growing environment that has limited budgets and resources.
• Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and QuickBooks.
