Jersey Hired is partnering with a premier, family-owned national property and casualty insurer to find a seasoned Senior Commercial Surety Underwriter. This is a pivotal role for a professional who thrives on financial analysis and strategic relationship building.
Our client is a leader in the industry, known for a culture of innovation and stability. This position offers a hybrid schedule, requiring you to be in the Newark office Monday through Wednesday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.
The Role

As a Senior Underwriter, you will be the primary point of contact for assigned agents, managing the full lifecycle of new and existing accounts. You will be responsible for gathering and analyzing critical financial data to make high-level recommendations to regional leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Development: Proactively seek out renewal and new account opportunities, marketing independently to agent and broker partners with a focus on production.
  • Risk Analysis: Perform in-depth financial and account analysis, ensuring all business meets authority and referral requirements.
  • Market Presence: Act as a key contact for target accounts and work to enhance the firm's brand presence in the marketplace.
  • Account Management: Rate and review bonds for premium accuracy and ensure all file documentation is complete and compliant.
  • Workflow Leadership: Prioritize tasks to meet strict deadlines and provide quality recommendations to Branch and Home Office reports.
Qualifications

Must-Have:
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience, OR 8 years of relevant bond underwriting experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of specific surety underwriting experience.
  • Strong competency in quantitative/financial analysis and a high math aptitude.
  • Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future VISA sponsorship requirements.
Preferred:
  • AFSB (Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding) industry designation.
