Position: Associate Principal - Academics

Assignment: Livingston Junior High School

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal, Livingston Junior High School

Pay Grade: PPG6

Date Revised: March 2026

Primary Purpose: Assist the principal in the overall administration of instructional programs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education/Certification: Masters Degree in educational administration and/or curriculum and instruction
  • Texas Principal certification
  • Instructional Leadership Training (ILT), Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL)
  • T-TESS Certification
  • Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience: Three years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Three years of experience in instructional leadership roles
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough understanding of school operations
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions and support operations
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Assist the principal in creating the master schedule.
  • Design and update the JH Academic Planning Guide annually.
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Assist the principal in implementing a Professional Learning Community culture.
  • Train teachers in effective instructional planning, assessment, and data analysis.
  • Promote the effective use of technology in teaching/learning process.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
  • Serve as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.
  • Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
  • Supervise operations in principal's absence.
  • Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policies.
  • Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning student and school issues.
  • Responsible for accurate designation of codes related to withdrawn and active student records.
  • Responsible for reviewing reports of student data, initiating updates of such data, and ensuring that data is accurately entered into the computer database and that the records are maintained in a location that is known and accessible to them.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
  • Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Frequent walking
  • Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of mouse
  • Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over)
  • Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel
  • Work with frequent interruptions
  • Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
  • All employees are to follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Paraprofessionals and teachers.
